Cancer Australia has awarded four new Ralph Lauren Pink Pony seeding grants to community organisations to support women with breast cancer in their local communities.
The Ralph Lauren Pink Pony seeding grants provide funding to community-based organisations that are working to improve access to quality information, support and services for women with breast cancer.
The 2016 recipients of the Ralph Lauren Pink Pony seeding grants are Cancer Council New South Wales, Westmead Breast Cancer Institute, CanRevive Inc. and Bloomhill Cancer Care.
CanRevive Inc. will use the grant to carry out a project named ‘Road to Recovery’ – Information for Chinese women affected by Breast Cancer’ which aims to address the unmet information need of Chinese women with breast cancer. The organization will work in partnership with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) to develop a cultural and linguistically appropriate information booklet and audio CD based on the ‘Healthy Eating and Breast Cancer’ booklet currently produced in English by BCNA. Community consultation will be conducted to identify the gaps in information which are relevant to women of Chinese background.
CanRevive Inc. President, Mrs Ella Lee explains, “We recognize that nutrition and maintaining a healthy diet is an important aspect for breast cancer patients and their carers. Community consultation groups will be conducted to help us identify any cultural issues or challenges that Chinese women with breast cancer have experienced.”
Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) CEO Christine Nolan said BCNA is thrilled to be working with CanRevive to ensure Chinese women diagnosed with breast cancer have access to information about the benefits of healthy eating and exercise.
“The aim of this project is to ensure Chinese women diagnosed with breast cancer have access to information that is culturally appropriate and that resonates with them, and we’re looking forward to CanRevive launching the information booklet and CD.”
The Ralph Lauren Pink Pony Campaign is an international initiative aimed at addressing the disparities in care for women with breast cancer. Cancer Australia administers the Australian arm of the initiative by managing an annual seeding grants program.
